Nathan-Paul grew up a pastor’s son from Cleveland, and knows how to deliver sound medicine to the people. His velvety Lo-Fi sounds are a vibe-heavy soul party, fusing modern trap, 70s funk, and fiery Southern gospel. He writes for pure enjoyment. “The way I go about writing, I’m like extreme Southern hospitality. I’ll always have something for you. I won’t let you leave until you take something with you.”, he said. Singing choir by age 5, Nathan is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in saxophone and flute, as well as production and composition. Though he may defy genre constructs, Nathan-Paul is a Jazz Studies graduate from the University of Akron, and is improvising all the time - influenced by greats Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong.
Nathan-Paul was the music director for Colmine recording artist Wesley Bright & The Honeytones, during which time he contributed toward arrangements and songwriting, and opened for bands including War, Tower Of Power, Lee Fields, and Charles Bradley. Written for Bright, Nathan’s song ‘Happiness’ earned him a placement with Nike Skateboard.
The artist’s newest project, Nathan-Paul & The Admirables, brings an aggressive, rock-edge to his sound medicine. This project that focuses on energy over notes has already led a successful tour with Moon Hooch and a performance backing soul-giant Dwele.
Wesley Bright and The Honeytones - A Band that is almost exclusively in the studio. This band predates The Admirables. My first real experience playing with musicians that were madly in love with old soul music. I grew up on The Temptations, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and many more. But these guys actually wanted to play like it was still the 60's. Needless to say this band has had a profound impact. For live shows I served as the artistic director, planning the sets out and writing transitions. Eventually Wesley Bright joined Colemine records. In my opinion the next big soul sound now that Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones (The biggest names at Daptone Records) have passed away. Daptone brought in a soul renaissance. Now Colemine is next. One of the songs I wrote for the band actually got picked up by a nike skateboard commercial (Wesley bright the singer wrote the lyrics). Below is the music featured in a Nike SB commercial (Skateboard)
Nathan-Paul & The Admirables - This Band is very special to me. It represents everything I did as a child when I was discovering how to mold sound. This band is pure energy. In Wesley Bright i learned how to keep it 100% funky, no weird stuff or to much jazz lol. Admirables came about because Wesley Bright wanted to see an original soul act for once, instead of being the act. So I put a band together. It was somewhat like Junior Walker and the all stars. Soul grooves and yelling at people to dance and party. The soul concept lasted a short while. I wanted to move things forward, no limits per sè. Trap Music, Funk, Hip-Hop, Rock, Gospel. My new concept was "BAM." The term is not new But the idea is Black American Music as the focus. From negro spirituals to the blues to ragtime, to swing, funk, hip-hop and so on. I want to tell that story, for the struggle to always be there. This is why we play every show like it's our last day on earth. Once we channelled that energy properly I could be as "weird" as I wanted. If you play that funky energy you can now play that weird thing you do on sax lol, and the funk never stops.

Soul is a feeling, not a genre." - Nathan Paul
